A widow like Mrs however clean, honest & capable she may be. The guardians allow her 2/ per week, & her oldest boy - about 16 - earns 8/- per week on the Ferry. There is a little girl who goes to school.

I impressed upon Mrs that I was sure you would wish after your care of the boy for several years, that he should only come home if definite work was ready for him. Mackie & Gladstone, Ale & Spirit Merchants will take him at once for bottle labelling at 8/- per week - he will not be near the wine or spirits, I am Uncle in the same employ, who is an abstainer, promises to look
