View the Case Summary.

12th April, 1899

Dear Madam,

Thank you for kindly writing to me respecting the two girls S & A. I am indeed pleased to hear that both these girls have done so well and have been in their present situations for so many years. I think it tends to show the result of the thorough training and kind and sympathetic interest which you give to all those girls placed in your charge, and I feel that they reflect great credit to the care and attention bestowed on them.

The Society has no such fund as mentioned but after three years a certificate of merit is issued to those girls who have conducted themselves well and the Committees of our various Homes have the power of giving some little additional present at the Society's expense in order to encourage the girls.

I believe that there is an ancient bequest allowing those servants who have retained their situations for so many years, a certain grant, but I cannot recall to mind the proper source to which to apply, but this bequest is in no way connected with the Society. I will certainly write to the two girls
