Buckhurst Home, Leicester

(1948 - 1972)

Buckhurst Home was opened to replace Leicester Home for Boys which had existed since 1889. The new Home in London Road, was opened on 28 June 1948 by the Mayor of Leicester and dedicated by the Bishop of Leicester. Buckhurst was a mixed 'Family Home', in other words it accommodated both boys and girls. The Home closed in 1972.
