Charnwood House Nursery for Physically Disabled Children, Woodhouse Eaves

Woodhouse Eaves, Loughborough, Leicestershire

(1966 - 1987)

Charnwood House opened in 1966 to provide residential care to babies with physical disabilities. By 1968 plans were made to improve and extend the Home and building work started a year later, finishing at a cost of £27,000. A new industrial laundry was added to the Home in 1971 and by 1976 a small extension had been added to the Home for families to stay during holidays. This facility was established to reduce the strain on parents who normally cared for disabled children in their own home. Charnwood House closed in 1987 when residents were moved to a smaller community house in Leicester.
