Fairlight Home (The Blanche Wimbridge Trust), Rustington

Rustington, Sussex

(1944 - 1972)

In 1944 the Home was bought by the Society for £3,000. It housed residents evacuated from St Francis' Home, Steyning who had originally been evacuated from St Francis' Home in Clapham Park, London at the outbreak of the Second World War.

After the war the residents were able to move back to St Francis', and The Fairlight Home continued as a mixed unit which accommodated children of school age.

In 1972 the Home closed as it had become too small for contemporary requirements. The residents were relocated to Corfield House, also in Rustington. The Fairlight Matron, Miss Diehl, also relocated and became the new Home Matron.
