This photograph was taken by a visitor to the Home as the girls were preparing to clear the table after their evening meal. They had just finished their dinner of soup and rice pudding, and the visitor was 'delighted with the behaviour and good appetite of the young folks.' An account of the visit, along with this photograph, appeared in the July 1896 edition of the Society's magazine 'Our Waifs and Strays'.
