What they wore. Brothers wearing sailor suits. Hidden Lives Revealed Print this page Close this window *
During the Victorian and Edwardian periods many young boys in middle and upper class families would be dressed in 'sailor suits' by their nannies or governesses. Even young Princes in the Royal Family were dressed this way. What a contrast it must have been for these brothers to dress like this, compared to what they wore before entering the Society's care. Boys in coastal homes like St Aidan's, or the Bersted Home in Bognor, often dressed up as 'little sailor laddies' and performed military drills.
