Description: Characteristic formal wear for younger boys included shorts and knee-high socks. Children in homes were taught how to look after their clothing from a young age. They learned how to wash and darn their own clothes and would also polish their shoes. Young people were expected to be self-sufficient and able to look after themselves at this time.
