By taking them on day-trips, the children were able to receive treats and experience some of the fun that is implicit in childhood. Many of the Society's wealthier benefactors allowed children to come for picnics and entertainments. This kept the link between the children and the supporters alive, and allowed the children to have a fun and exciting time - as you can see from this letter.
