Case 12653. Letter from Miss Evans 22 March 1888
View the Case Summary.
noticed a woman & child getting in at Sydney to which he replied no but a child is here with a [?] on its back - accordingly the child was taken home & many letters were written in to it's supposed mother but they were returned. Shortly after this the woman's husband was taken ill & died, so the child being such a comfort in this woman's lonliness, gave up all hopes of ever finding any news about it. This woman whom I have only known since the end of January put the child under my care & sent to a home, as she is quite unprovided for.
