Case 4220

1. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 13 January 1894

View the Case Summary.

The boy's father deserted his family on the death of his wife, when the boy was only an infant. One or two of the children were sent to the workhouse and this boy was taken charge of by his sister with whom he is still living. She is now married and has several children. Her husband cannot afford to keep him any longer, and will send him to the workhouse if he cannot be taken into a home. Both the sister and her husband are most steady respectable persons, but very poor. The child's father has not been heard of for several years and it is not known whether he is living or dead. There is no member of the family in a position to help. I may add that the brother-in-law has done his duty to the child since he has been married, but as the child is growing bigger he feels that it is more than he can afford out of his small earnings, to keep him longer. I earnestly recommend the case to you favourable consideration.
