Case 4770

1. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 30 March 1895

View the Case Summary.

M. is the illegitimate child of A., who, being cast off by all her relations when this child was born (its father being the son of A's Mistress, when A. was only 17), has been living a fallen life, more or less ever since. The child is docile, & obedient, & worth making a special effort to reclaim. The case was brought under my notice when my husband was working in Trowbridge 2 [?] years ago.

Mrs. H.
Combe Down Vicarage
Bath

M. was, at Mrs. H's request admitted into the Children's Shelter of the Bath Preventative Mission in August last, in order to excuse her from her evil surroundings. It was then hoped that she had been brought away just in time, but within the past three weeks it has been discovered that she was a ruined child when she came, and it is therefore impossible to let her remain. She has attended the Day and Sunday Schools in [connection] with S. Swithin's Church, Walcot, and has behaved very well.

Miss Agnes Carpenter
Hon. Sec.
