Case 59291. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 11 March 1897View the Case Summary.
When the boy's father died his widow tried to keep on a horse & cart with which he had earned a little to increase his wages. It had only just been paid for, and he was beginning to have a connection at the time of his death. Mrs E's brother in law, G drives the horse & cart; having given up his own previous employment to do so, but it does not pay, and it is with the greatest difficulty that he makes the £1.0.0 per week. Sometimes he has not this, as there is the horse to keep, shoes to be paid for &c. During the frost the horse was lamed, so has not been working at all lately, & of course would not sell now. Mrs E has made literally nothing by the horse & card, indeed the expenses have increased. Mrs. E will be most grateful if her boy can [?] one of the homes & [?] W.
