3. Apprenticeship indenture agreement 29 September 1887

This Indenture made the 29th day of September
one thousand eight hundred and eighty seven
Witnesseth That E.
of The Boys Home Frome
in the County of Somerset
Son of
.
by and with the consent and approbation of his testified by himself executing these Presents, doth put himself Apprentice to C.B.
of Frome
in the County of Somerset
to learn the Art, Trade, or Business of Building Carpentry and Forming
and with him after the manner of an Apprentice to serve from the twentyninth day of September eighteenhundred & eighty seven until the full end and term of seven years from thence next following, fully to be complete and ended. During which term the said Apprentice his Master faithfully shall serve, his secrets keep, and his lawful commands obey; - he shall do no damage to his said Master or his Goods, nor suffer it to be done by others, but shall forthwith give notice to his said Master of the same, when necessary; - he shall not waste the Goods of his said Master, nor lend them unlawfully to any ; nor shall he do any act whereby his said Master say sustain any loss, with his own Goods or others' during the said term; - without Licence of his said Master, he shall neither buy nor sell during his Apprenticeship ;nor shall he absent himself from the said Master's service day or night unlawfully; but in all things as a faithful Apprentice shall behave himself towards his said Master and others, during the said term. And the said C.B. undertakes to teach E. his said Apprentice in the Art, Trade, or Business of Building Carpentry & Forming which he useth by the best means in his cower shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed; - the said E. and will pay the said Apprentice the Wages following - that is to say
For the first year 2/6 (two shillings & six pence) per week
For the second year 3/6 (three shillings & six pence) per week
For the third year 4/6 (four shillings & six pence) per week
For the fourth year 5/6 (five shillings & six pence) per week
For the fifth year 6/6 (six shillings & six pence) per week
For the first year 8/6 (eight shillings & six pence) per week
For the first year 10/6 (ten shillings & six pence) per week
These presents shall be handed over to the said E. on the completion of the said term, with a Certificate of such service endorsed thereon. AND for the true performance of all and every of the said Covenants and Agreements the said Parties bind themselves by these Presents. IN WITNESS whereof the said parties have hereunto set their Hands and Seals the day and year first above written.
