Dictated

Dear Madam
re H
I beg to inform you that I have carefully questioned the above boy with reference to the letter which he sent to his aunt, and the statement respecting the stick with the knotted rope seems to me to be pure fabrication. He tells me that he has never seen such a thing, and that before he went into the Home, he read about one in a book, and that gave him the idea. The boy states that the master has never beaten him, although he has told the other boys to do so, and a boy named J hit him with his hand because he was dirty in his habits. I have told Mr. Harris that the master himself must punish the boys when they need it. The little fellow leaves to-day for our Home at Burgess Hill, where I hope he will be happy and tell no untruths. I enclose a receipt for the 12/- which you were kind enough to send in your letter yesterday.
Yours very truly,
sgd. E de M R

Mrs. W
