Case 949848. Letter from the Surgical Aid Society setting out their conditions 24 March 1911View the Case Summary.
The Surgical Aid Society Dear Sir, In reply to your letter respecting A., before I can authorize the collection of Letters to enable him to procure a new Artificial Leg I shall need a doctor's certificate, careful measurements, and information as to the lad's circumstances as per enclosed forms. I am afraid your suggestion as to obtaining an estimate from a local Instrument cannot be entertained, because in the first place we naturally prefer to order Appliances from our own makers in London with whom we have contracts, and secondly the price of a Leg from a provincial maker would probably be very much higher than we pay in London, and would proportionately increase the number of Letters required, and the consequent demand upon our Subscribers. If, however, measurements as indicated are carefully and accurately taken I see no reason why it should not be possible to provide -- with a satisfactory and well-fitting Limb, as indeed we have done in very many similar cases. Of course any payment towards the cost of the Leg would reduce the number of Letters to be obtained. Stamped in purple: Mar 25 1911
