re L

You are probably aware that I have been having some correspondence with Miss Stancliffe respecting the future of the above-named girl who is at present an inmate of the Mirfield Home. The girl is stated to be feeble-minded and Miss Stancliffe was arranging for her reception into a Home recommended by the National Association for the Feeble Minded, but on enquiries being made, I found a contribution of 10/- a week would be expected till L was 18 years of age, when it would be reduced to 8/6 a week, but this would be required for the whole life of the girl. The case has carefully been considered by my Committee and there seems no alternative but for L to be handed over to the local Board of Guardians, who will then decide as to her place of settlement. It is not to be expected that the Board will willingly acknowledge its responsibility, and it seems that this is the reason why the case has been pending for so long a period. The last communication I has from Miss Stancliffe was a postcard dated the 11th April, in
