Description: |
Ten year old M's mother died of consumption [tuberculosis] in 1885. Her father was not home much and her 14 year old sister was doing the housekeeping and looking after M. and the family's other four children. She was badly neglected. The Barnes Ladies Association [B.L.A.], London, put her case to the Society. In August 1887 M. was sent to Gould's Green Cottage Home, Hillingdon, Middlesex. In May 1891 she was transferred to Fareham Industrial Home, Hampshire. In 1893 M. had several short term posts in service, returning to Fareham after each. She returned to the home in February 1894 and that is the last we know of her. The B.L.A. wrote two letters concerning M's welfare while she was at Fareham. |
