Description:

A. was an orphan. Her father, a platemaker with the North London Railway, was killed on the railway in March 1882. In May the same year her mother died of tuberculosis. A. went into the Kilburn Orphanage in June 1882. In March 1884 a lady wrote to the orphanage seeking an eight or nine year old child who could be sent to South Africa as a servant. There is no evidence that A. or any other child was sent.
