St Alban's Home For Boys, Bexhill

Parkhurst Road, Bexhill, Sussex

(1896 - 1898)

We have little information about this Home as it hardly mentioned in the Society's Archive, and it was only open for two years. We know that it opened in 1896 at Parkhurst Road, Bexhill and was as a small cottage home for 14 boys aged 8-14. By 1897 the Home had just six residents, boys aged 3-8, and closed the following year.

Cottage homes were usually quite small, rurally located, and only housed a few younger children. The boys who were cared for at St Alban's Home were probably local children. However it was not unusual for cottage homes to take children from the cities, which gave these children a fresh start in a new environment.
