In 1939 residents were evacuated to Exeter from St Edith's Home for Girls, Fareham. There was a further evacuation in 1942 to St Edith's Home for Girls, Paignton, and then to Sampford Peverill, Devon, until 1946. The decision was made following a heavy bombing raid on Exeter during which the Home was only slightly damaged. |
