Firs Home For Girls, Hillingdon

Hillingdon Heath, nr. Uxbridge, Middlesex

(1893 - 1902)

We do not know much about this home as it is not mentioned that often in our records. We believe Firs Home for Girls was originally Goulds Green Home for Girls in Hillingdon, and changed its name in 1893. However, it is unknown whether the Home moved premises.

Homes relied on the generosity of the Society's supporters for equipment, clothes, money and other items that they may need. In one of the Society's publications, called Our Waifs and Strays, children's homes could make appeals for items that they needed in a section called 'What We Want.' One of the Firs Home's rare mentions is a plea for blankets that were urgently needed.

We do not know the reason why, but the Home closed in 1902.
