Marylebone Receiving Home and Training Home for Girls, Marylebone

Marylebone, London

(1905 - 1909)

The Home opened in around 1905 in a building that had previously been occupied by St Hilda's Receiving House and Training Home, which had relocated to St Hilda's Nursery, Beckenham in 1905.

The building's position was used to good effect as one of London's main Receiving Homes. Children under eight years of age were received and they were given new clothes and assessed by a dentist, doctor and the Home Matron. Five elder girls were also in residence at the Home to help with the care of younger children as well as being trained before going into service.

The Home was replaced by St Elizabeth's Receiving Home, Clapham in 1909 as this building was better adapted for accommodating small babies and older girls.
