St Oswald's Home for Girls, Natland

Natland, Westmorland

(1939 - 1946)

In 1939 the residents of St Oswald's Home for Girls, Cullercoats, were evacuated to Natland. The Home was let to the Society by Mr and Mrs Somerwell of Windermere.

The change of scenery was reported as a success for the girls: 'The girls are benefitting from their stay in the country in more ways than one. Long walks are now no effort to them as they are greatly interested in country lore and nature'.

In 1946 the Home closed when residents moved to St Agatha's Home, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire.
