mother who is an old lady of 75 has many "irons in the fire". farms a little, & receives cottage & allotments rents [&c] & these are very apt to lie about in little heaps with the books belonging to them. She will try to be very careful till M. can be moved. but at her age she cannot alter all her habits, or keep a constant watch.

C. M. little sister between 8 & 9 is very shocked. refused to eat the oranges bought with the stolen money. & cried Mrs. S. said more than M. but I think the 2 sisters had better be separated just now.
