& I am sure that she coming to & fro between the 2 houses would offer endless temptations to visits to sweetshops. We have employed her a good deal in messages & in taking letters to the post. & she protested very earnestly today that she had never stolen when we had given her money to lay out for us - or given her money for [?] postal orders &c. & I believe the child had that bit of honour left. But ours would he a dangerous house for an untrustworthy child. Our housemaid is very sorry for her carelessness in leaving her money open -- but we were all so proud of the child & thought so well of her. Though the housemaid had wondered what had become of the 2/- piece. & said before M. that she thought she must have put it instead of a 1d into a collection. but my
