September 2nd, 1931.

Dear Madam,

I have this morning heard from our Worker in Leicester who has visited Miss E. She tells me that she has found that she is now working and though on short time, as all the hosiery workers are in Leicester at present, she is managing fairly. The home is comfortable and so far as Sister Johnson could see, there was no pressing need. Miss E. told her that she had been ill last winter, but had now quite recovered. She seemed grateful and pleased at the visit and interest and promised to let Sister Johnson know if she was ill again or wanted any special help. She lives very near the parish where Sister Johnson is working.

With regard to the case of Mrs. W. about whom you sent particulars, the matter has been considered this morning, but I am sorry it is not one in which we feel we can give help. As the woman is Roman Catholic, she should apply to her Priest and ask him to get into touch with the Public Assistance, as certainly 6/- a week in food tickets is quite inadequate for two people. With regrets that we cannot take up the matter,

Yours faithfully,
Constance Ward
Sec. Women's Help Dept.

Miss J,
at Slinford Lodge,
Horsham,
Sussex.
