Case 9131

1. Application to the Waifs and Strays' Society 30 April 1902

View the Case Summary.

When A left school in 1899, she was sent to a Training Home in Barnsley, where she had every care and good training 0 6 months ago, she was sent to a situation in Scarboro' - to a lady well known to the ladies Committee at the Training Home for Friendless Girls in Barnsley. This lady found her so untruthful & disobedient that she could not keep her. Mrs. G wife of the [?] was then persuaded to give the girl a trial, but in spite of patient kindness shown her for some weeks, she was found to be such an incorrigible liar & so hopelessly idle that she was dismissed. Mrs. Leigh kindly consented to take her into the Pitt Street Home for a short time. I hope she may be removed into St. Chard's Home & taught Laundry work - her relations in their Parish are quite unable to receive or support her.
