When F. was about four years old, her mother died of cancer. Her father was an alcoholic and led an itinerant life, living in workhouses. He eventually deserted his children in the Ashford Workhouse and was sentenced to three months in prison for neglect. F. lived in several of the Society's homes and went into service in 1903. The girls at Hampstead High School for Girls paid for F's maintenance at the Harrow Home. F. developed a mental illness and attempted suicide in January 1907. Between 1907 and 1911 she was at several mental hospitals. In December 1911 she went to live at an After Care Association home. She recovered and went into service. Around 1920 she had an illegitimate son. F. got married at some point between the late 1920s and early 1940s. |
